Part of a successful parade is creating a safe environment for both the participants in the parade as well as our spectators. Unfortunately, people’s enthusiasm for having fun, sometimes creates an unsafe environment. To help ensure a safe and successful Community Parade, the following parade guidelines have been established by the Newark Area Jaycees:
1. Candy or other handouts (i.e. papers, balloons, flags, and water bottles) may not be distributed by any means other than by persons walking along the curb and directly handing them out. Items may not be thrown from the vehicles or floats.
2. In keeping with the spirit of the Community Parade, we ask that no political or campaign messages be displayed. Candidates may register as themselves, but without a campaign message. Politicians holding an office may display their title on their entry. Failure to comply will result in removal from the parade rout
3. No squirting or spraying water. Squirt guns, water cannons, water balloons, etc. are prohibit
4. Every parade entry that is being pulled (i.e. floats and semi-trucks) shall have responsible adults (Safety Person) assigned to communicate with the driver. The Safety Person(s) will provide an extra set of eyes for your driver. They will work with the driver to ensure the unit is clear to move forward or if it needs to stop.
5. No jumping on or off of a moving vehicle. If a person needs to get on or off the vehicle, their Safety Person will notify the driver and the unit will be stopped. It will only move forward when the Safety Person(s) has indicated that it is safe to move forward
6. Persons operating any type of motor propelled vehicle that is capable of speeds over 15 MPH on level pavement must possess a current and valid driver’s license.
7. Anyone having an animal in the parade is responsible for his or her animal behavior. Big animals like horses must have seasoned riders who can control their animal. Entries that include horses may arrive at 2 p.m., as they will be the in the last section of the parade.
8. Follow all “staging” and “end of parade directions” that the Newark Area Jaycees provided once your registration was processed. Parade lineup changes or additions on the day of the event will not be permitted.
By electronically signing this form you indicate that you have read and understand Community Parade rules and the release of liability. Any participants that do not comply with the above safety rules may be removed from the parade route. It may also affect your entry in any future parades.
Please provide a brief description of your entry.
There is a $5 entry fee.
